Child Care Subsidy Recipients by FPL 

This dashboard presents data on child care subsidy recipients in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, from 2016 to 2023. The top chart shows the number of children under 13 years old receiving a child care subsidy over time. The number fluctuates around 4,000 for most of the period. However, On May 1, 2022, ECECD raised the income eligibility threshold for subsidized child care to 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL) and removed copays so more families potentially qualify for free child care. The number shows a significant increase towards the end, reaching around 5,915 in May 2023. The second chart shows the distribution of child care subsidy recipients by their FPL over the same period. The largest segment consistently falls in the <100% FPL category, indicating that most recipients are from households with incomes below the federal poverty line. However, the proportion of recipients in higher income brackets increased after the income eligibility thresholds changed. 

Child Care Subsidy Recipients by Age

The charts indicate that most subsidized children in Doña Ana County and across New Mexico are enrolled in licensed child care facilities, with this percentage growing over the years. A smaller and declining proportion are in registered care settings. However, Doña Ana County has a proportionally higher percentage of children in registered care than the rest of New Mexico.

This chart displays the number of children by age group (under 6 years old) in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, receiving a child care assistance subsidy from 2016 to 2023. The line graph shows fluctuations over time but an overall increasing trend, especially towards the end of the period when, in June 2023, 3,242 received a subsidy.
